At A1 level you can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at fulfilling needs of a concrete type. You can introduce yourself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know and things you have. You can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
You can take part in a simple conversation of a basic factual nature on a predictable topic (e.g. your home country, family, school). You can make an introduction and use basic greeting and leave-taking expressions. You can ask how people are and react to news. You can exchange likes and dislikes for sports, foods, etc., using a limited repertoire of expressions, when addressed clearly, slowly and directly.
You can understand questions and instructions addressed carefully and slowly to you and follow short, simple directions. You can act on basic instructions that involve times, locations, numbers, etc. You can ask people for things, and give people things.
